It’s projection time of year and I have no idea what Joe Judge is thinking. But here goes:
Quarterbacks (3): Jones, McCoy, Rush
Cut(s): Tanney
When camp first started I labeled Rush a “tomato.” Man did he change my mind. Rush played well in scrimmages and finished camp strong. Judge waives bye to Pat Shurmur’s favorite QB room guy. Oh, did I mention Rush is Garrett’s guy?
Running backs (4): Barkley, Lewis, Gallman, Penny
Cut(s): Feaster, Platzgummer
I still would have given Leake a better look. Gallman has talent, but there’s something about him I don’t trust when he comes into a game.
Wide receivers: (6): Tate, Shep, Slayton, Coleman, Holton, Bachman
Cut(s): Sills, Mack, Dillion, Victor, Board
Holton replaces Core this season. He’s a 6-3 gunner who can give you some snaps at receiver. My surprise is Bachman. Judge loved Danny Amendola in Foxboro and sees a lot of Bachman in him. Bachman can return punts and give Garrett slot snaps.
Tight ends (4) Engram, Toilolo, Smith, Dickerson
Cut(s): Tomlinson
I felt Dickerson had a stronger camp than Tomlinson.
Offensive line (9) Thomas, Hernandez, Gates, Zeitler, Fleming, Pulley, Peart, Halapio, Lemieux
Cut(s): Smith, Slade, Haycraft, Murphy
Defensive line (5) Williams, Tomlinson, Lawrence, Hill, Johnson,
Cut(s): McIntosh, Slayton, Lalos, Mack
Gettleman’s late round picks from the last two drafts don’t pan out.
Linebackers (10) Ximines, Carter, Martinez, Connelly, Downs, Golden, Fackrell, Coughlin, Crowder, Mayo
Cut(s): Brown, Brunson, Tauaefa
Mr “Irrelevant” did enough to stick. Mayo should be back by Week 3 so you carry him.
Cornerbacks (4) Bradberry, Ballentine, Yiadom, Holmes
Cut(s): B. Williams, J. Williams, Smith, Russell, Askew-Henry, Haley
It wouldn’t surprise me if I’m wrong about Ballentine.
Safeties (5) Peppers, Love, Ebner, Ryan, Hartage
Cut(s): Chandler, Williamson
Ebner is a safety in name only. He will not play a snap on the back-end, strictly a special-team guy.
