Backup Running Back
Projected winner: Dion Lewis
Challenger(s): Wayne Gallman
Wayne Gallman is coming off a very strange season. Filling in for the injured Saquon Barkley, Gallman had two starts before suffering a concussion. But the “strange” aspect was that former head coach Pat Shurmur didn’t play him towards the end of the season, and to this day, nobody knows why he resided in Shurmur’s doghouse… especially Gallman.
Gallman ended last season playing in 10 games (two starts), finishing with 110 rushing yards. Joe Judge promised a clean slate with the whole team, giving the talented fourth year back a second chance. He needs to flash and impress to make the roster.
Feeling the need to add depth to the running back position, Gettleman signed veteran Dion Lewis as Judge is familiar with him from his New England days. Lewis comes over from Tennessee with fresh legs, rushing only 54 times last season due to the workload of Derrick Henry. Lewis is a good receiver out of the backfield, giving him the edge over Gallman.
