Giants fans wanted him. Giants fans got him.
Markus Golden- whose 10 sacks in 2019 were more than double than any other Giants pass rusher, re-signed with Big Blue.
Golden had been a unrestricted free agent, but soon after the NFL Draft, the Giants placed a seldom-used unrestricted free agent tender on Golden. It was called a “May 5” tender and Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge struck gold.
When Golden didn’t sign with another team by the first day of training camp, the Giants regained Golden’s exclusive rights for the 2020 season.
“We love everything Golden brings to the team,” Joe Judge said. “He’s a hard-worker, a great locker room personality, and obviously a real good football player.”
Golden started all 16 games last season finishing with 10 sacks, the first Giants player with double-digit sack total since Jason Pierre-Paul (12.5) in 2014.
With the return of Golden, Oshane Ximines, Lorenzo Carter, and the addition of free agent Kyler Fackrell, the Giants present a formidable group of edge rushers.
“It’s not who gets to the quarterback, it’s how many times you get there,” general manager Dave Gettleman said after the draft. “If you get sacks by committee, then so be it.”
The leader of the committee is back.
